I have just re-read Federalist Paper No. 10. It was published in New York in 1787. That was 239 years ago, before the Constitution was ratified. If you think that the founders did not foresee our current state of political affairs, I encourage you to read what James Madison had to say. Not only did he foresee it, he foresaw it happening over and over again (as it has and will). He also outlines its causes, its results and its cures. To date, it fits perfectly with our national history. He describes with absolute clarity what happens, how it happens, and why it happens. He also describes what must be done to remedy tyranny.
This may sound silly, but it gives me immeasurable hope. We've been in political quagmires before, we'll be in them again. Trump is not the first, nor the last, executive to challenge the Constitution. While it may shake, it will not shatter because the Founders knew this would happen and planned for it in the Constitution.
They knew it would never be a perfect Republic, but they laid the foundation to make it incrementally better. They planned for the pitfalls of property and privilege. Madison describes, to a "T" what we are seeing in today's American society. He knew how it would work and how the pendulum of society would swing. Its absolutely amazing how clairvoyant he was. All this to say, the Constitution will survive, if and only if, we, the people decide it must. And I have no doubt whatsoever that the vast majority of Americans, regardless of political ideology, believe that it must.
I encourage you to read Federalist Paper No. 10 and see for yourselves. Then, go vote in your local primaries as you see fit. Be informed, be thoughtful and vote in your own self-interest - as it was and is intended.
